💼 About the Role
As a Head of Engeering at Murphy, your mission is to lead, scale, and inspire a world-class engineering organization that is building the future of automated debt collection through AI. You’ll combine deep technical expertise, AI know-how, strategic thinking, and strong leadership to align our engineering vision with business impact. You’ll be hands-on when needed, set the technical direction, and cultivate a culture of curiosity, performance, and ownership.
📝 Responsibilities
- Define and execute the long-term engineering strategy in collaboration with the executive team.
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of high-performing engineers across multiple domains (backend, infrastructure, AI, frontend).
- Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to integrate AI/ML throughout our product.
- Maintain high standards of software quality, scalability, and reliability across systems.
- Oversee and guide architectural decisions, code quality, and technical trade-offs.
- Establish effective engineering processes, rituals, and performance tracking systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to prioritize and deliver key initiatives.
- Own the hiring plan and actively participate in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top engineering talent.
- Foster a culture of technical curiosity, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Stay close to the work: review critical PRs, provide architectural guidance, and unblock teams when necessary.
📚 Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven ability to lead teams in high-growth, fast-paced startup environments.
- Strong technical background — ideally in backend development (Node.js, TypeScript) and infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience or deep understanding of AI/ML, LLMs, or applied machine learning in production environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; you inspire, align, and build trust.
- Strategic mindset — you think beyond the next sprint and anticipate scale, complexity, and business needs.
- Passion for developing talent and cultivating high-performing, curious, and autonomous teams.
